Ester Participates in Deaconess & Home Missioner Consecration

May 16, 2016
As part of the opening worship service at General Conference on Monday, May 16, 2016, United Methodist Deaconesses and Home Missioners were consecrated into ministry. Clara Ester, a retired deaconess in the Alabama-West Florida Conference, participated in this joyful moment by offering opening words and assisting in consecrating these servants. She said, "This was a monumental time for consecration services to be held from the floor of General Conference and truly exemplifies our theme of, 'Therefore Go.' Twenty-four Deaconesses and Home Missioners are being sent out to change the world through love, justice and service in the name of God."

After a shared liturgy, each deaconess and home missioner was given a stole and hands were laid upon them to demonstrate the support and prayers they have for their work by our connection.

Deaconesses and Home Missioners are laywomen and laymen who are called by God to be in a lifetime relationship in The United Methodist Church for engagement with a full-time vocation in ministries of love, justice, and service. Together they form a covenant community that is rooted in Scripture, informed by history, driven by mission, ecumenical in scope, and global in outreach. Read more about them here

Clara Ester and Susan Hunt, AWF Director of Mission & Advocacy and Southeastern Jurisdictional Delegate reserve, are both deaconesses in our conference. Thanks be to God for these servants around the world.
