Starting February 22, 2018, Courageous Conversations will begin in the Alabama-West Florida Conference. These conversations will be held in twenty-seven locations throughout the bounds of the conference, with one session being offered in Spanish.
Bishop David Graves is inviting all to come together for Christ-honoring time together regarding human sexuality and the United Methodist Church. The "Courageous Conversations" project will be used to hold these conversations.
"I am grateful to the leadership team that has diligently worked on this project," said Bishop David Graves. "I have challenged this conference to stay focused on mission and ministry and I feel these conversations will better prepare us for larger discussions in our denomination. Because of that and the work we will do at the 2018 session of annual conference, I am strongly encouraging all clergy and lay members to annual conference attend a session near their home. The more we listen to one another and hear stories of Christ in each other, the more we speak with our heart. To set an example, we are kicking off the first conversation with the cabinet to model what it looks like to live into this project."
The Courageous Conversations project is aimed to help the conference move from skepticism to curiosity and even openness to encounter God’s grace. Courageous Conversations is a toolbox that local churches can use to inspire and encourage the church and individuals to stay at the table when the anxiety and emotional turmoil is painful. Courageous Conversations introduces a faithful way to listen and learn more about one another in an appreciative style and in a safe space.
