The North Alabama Conference and the Alabama–West Florida Conference will jointly sponsor a “United Methodist Lawyers’ Forum”, to be held in Birmingham, Alabama, on September 22, 2016.
The Forum, which will be free to all United Methodist lawyers from both Conferences, will offer CLE Credits from both Alabama and Florida, including Ethics Credits. Topics to be covered will include: sexual misconduct, real property (including requirements of the Book of Discipline), child abuse and neglect, copyright issues, employment practices, and vicarious liability for churches and church-related organizations.
The Forum will offer an excellent group of speakers, including Dawn Hare, from the denomination’s Council on the Status of Rights and Opportunities for Women; Steve Lambert, General Counsel to the General Counsel on Finance and Administration, former Alabama Chief Justice Sue Bell Cobb, Joy Melton, the “guru” of safe sanctuaries, and Dr. Richard Hammar, renowned author of Church Law and Tax Report.
