Mission Teams in 2021 and beyond

We are now beginning to recruit Conference-wide mission teams and District Mission Teams to Tanzania for 2021 and beyond. Mission teams will build relationships with the people of the Tanzania UMC and offer workshops and other training for the church leaders there. The list of the areas for which they are requesting training and development are listed below. If you are interested in teaching or leading any of these areas and would like to be considered to join a team in 2021  or later, please contact your area champion.   1. Leadership development
    1. Leadership Development for pastors and laity
    2. Style of leadership: empowerment over control
    3. Delegation and Management
    4. Personal leadership – goal setting and moving forward in your own life
  2. Children and youth
    1. Teams in March and October 2020 to follow up on October 2019 team about offering and leading Children's and Youth ministry in the local church
    2. Confirmation – curriculum and training, especially if not covered by October 2019 team
  3. Discipleship
    1. Spiritual Gifts and lay roles in the church
    2. Discipleship systems revolving around small groups
    3. Bible as narrative – teaching the Bible as a continuous story with God
  4. Church Administration (Will need more contextual training and understanding in advance)
    1. Church records, church committees and their uses
    2. Vision, mission, and leading from these
    3. Growing churches past the 50 member mark (combination of leadership and church administration)
  5. Income-generation projects, entrepreneurship
    1. Farming (e.g., chickens, gardening)
    2. Making soap
    3. Running small businesses
    4. Others


Churches are also encouraged to form and send teams to Tanzania. Church teams can offer training as listed above, but are also welcome to help with church construction, offer a VBS program, or send medical teams. Whatever your "task", most important is to build relationships with the people of Tanzania and offer support and encouragement. Contact your area champion to discuss options. Click here for the list.
