George Mingledorff, Montgomery-Opelika District Lay Leader

George is a long-standing member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Montgomery, Alabama, where he has worshipped and served in many leadership roles during his 39 years as a member. George and his wife of 42 years, Sarah, have two adult children and four grandsons, and absolutely love being grandparents. George retired in 2001 after a long career with the Alabama Department of Revenue and has since enjoyed being able to serve in a number of leadership roles in the community as well as the church. He is also a retired Commander in the U.S. Naval Reserve and a combat veteran of the Vietnam War. He presently serves on the Board of Directors for the Nellie Burge Community Center (Mary Ellen’s Hearth) which is in the process of changing its focus to a transitional living facility for homeless mothers and their children.

One of George’s ministry passions is leading the missions program at Aldersgate with his wife Sarah. Together they have led numerous mission trips and work teams locally, nationally and abroad and chair the church’s Missions Leadership Team for the planning and directing of all missions events and activities. George also teaches Sunday school on a regular basis and serves on a number of local church committees. He is also a member of the Central Alabama Emmaus Community and has served as a Lay Director for an Emmaus Walk as well as lay director for the Montgomery Cluster.
