Susan is originally from Montgomery, Alabama and has had a passion for theatre, dance and music since she was in elementary school. For the past fifteen years, Susan has been an inspirational speaker around the southeast and for the past three years has devoted her time to storytelling. Susan enjoys the genre of personal story the most, retelling the stories she learned from her grandmothers and her own parents as she was growing up. She also feels called to bring a message of hope and encouragement to others through the power of story.

Susan received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The University of Alabama, Birmingham in 1984 and will complete a Master of Storytelling Performance at East Tennessee State University in the fall of 2015. She has served as an award winning theatre and show choir director, taught high school French, biology, and anatomy, and volunteered for the past twenty years with The Southeast Alabama Community Theatre as a director, producer, writer, and most recently, make-up mistress and actress in Les Miserables.

Susan is currently the content coordinator for Dothan Neighbors Magazines and serves as a consultant at Providence Christian School within the language arts program. Susan is a vocalist with The Moonlighters Orchestra and serves on the Board of Directors for The Cultural Arts Center and Transform Central. She also volunteers with Communities of Transformation-a mentoring organization.

Susan and her husband John are members of Westgate Church and share a passion for prison ministry. They minister together to the women incarcerated at the Houston County Jail and to the men and women at The Community Corrections facility in Dothan. Part of what drew John and Susan together was their shared love of missions. John serves as deacon over missions and Susan devotes time every year to foreign missions. She has traveled most recently to Haiti and Nicaragua. Susan also sings on the Praise Team.  Susan and John have been married thirty years. They love to travel off the beaten path and experience the food and lifestyles of other cultures. Susan considers her greatest accomplishment that of being mother to Garrett, a professional musician in Arkansas, and Jordan, who is a chef in Dothan. They are what Susan considers her most precious gift from God…yes, there is a story there.
