The Rev. Dr. Thomas G. Long will be the featured speaker for the Dill Lecture Series at Dauphin Way UMC on Sunday, September 26. At 5:30 PM he will deliver a lecture,"The Love of God and the Tragedy of Suffering: What Can We Believe," which addresses the challenge of wondering how God can be loving and powerful in a world filled with so much suffering. He will also preach at the 10:30 AM worship service. His sermon will be based on the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus. Both events are free of charge and open to the entire community. Dr. Long was named "one of the twelve most effective preachers in the English-speaking world" by Baylor University. He is the Bandy Professor of Preaching Emeritus at Candler School of Theology at Emory University and taught preaching for over 40 years. He has written numerous books on worship and preaching.
