The Cost of Poverty Experience is a Poverty Simulation Role-Playing Game that offers up to 80 participants a glimpse into the lives of low-income individuals and families living in our community. By being assigned particular family roles and interacting with community agencies and resource providers (played by 25 volunteers), participants get a taste of the obstacles that are faced, the decisions that have to be made, and the consequences that impact real-life families struggling to make ends meet. Afterward, participants and volunteers will reflect together on their experience and learn how they can get more involved in local poverty alleviation efforts.
Who should participate? Anyone in the community interested in learning more about the lives and needs of under-resourced families in our community. Children between the ages of 10 and 17 must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Childcare available upon request for children aged 6 months to 9 yrs old.
Cost: Suggested donation of paper goods (paper plates, bowls, plasticware, napkins, cups) or cash or check made out to Caring and Sharing of South Walton – COT, to support their poverty-alleviation program Communities of Transformation.
Sponsored by Communities of Transformation, Caring and Sharing of South Walton, SoWal Community Chaplain Inc., and the Boys & Girls Club of the Emerald Coast.
