Amy Persons, Minister Saint Andrew United Methodist Church 2001 W. 11th Street Panama City, Florida 32401 Job Description General Description: The Coordinator for Children’s and Youth Ministry (CCYM) is a part-time ministry position with the primary responsibilities of building and supporting teams of volunteers who will teach and facilitate programs and events. These programs and events are expressions of St. Andrew’s mission to help children and youth in our community develop a meaningful relationship with God and become disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world. The CCYM will be supervised by the Senior Pastor, with ultimate accountability to the Staff Parish Relations Committee and to the policies of The Discipline of the United Methodist Church 2016, the Administrative Council of St. Andrew United Methodist Church, and the SAUMC Staff-Parish Relations Committee Personnel Handbook. On-site work hours vary according to need; however, the CCYM will be present on Sunday mornings from 9am – 12noon and Wednesdays from 4pm – 7:30pm. As well, the CCYM will be on-site for additional occasional events including, but not limited to the following: youth events (e.g. Movie Nights, Summer Camp Week, Winter Retreat); children’s events (e.g. Easter Egg Hunt, Summer Camp Week); and church-wide outreach and mission opportunities (e.g. Mardi Gras at St. Andrew, Community Breakfast). The CCYM is a salaried position based on an average of 25 work hours per week. Timesheets may be requested for occasional review of hours. Annual Salary: $19,000; paid biweekly. Primary Responsibilities: • Identify, mentor, and resource volunteers to lead weekly ministries with children and youth (e.g. Sunday School, Wednesday Youth Ministry, KFC) • Actively engage with children, youth, and volunteers on Sundays and Wednesdays specifically, to ensure programs are running smoothly and to cultivate relationships with those participating in these ministries • Research and select curriculum for various ministries, both weekly and occasional (e.g. Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Messy Church) • Determine and gather all materials needed for ministries with children and youth, or utilize volunteers to do so • Recruit and resource both Children’s Council and Youth Council to give vision and direction to Children’s and Youth Ministries at St. Andrew • Facilitate the gatherings for both Children’s Council and Youth Council by providing administrative support (assisting with setting dates for meetings, following up with decisions, etc.) • Provide occasional leadership for weekly ministries with children and youth (e.g. short term studies or to fill-in when a volunteer is not able to assist) Primary Responsibilities (continued): • Discern and implement ministries that will invite and disciple children and youth who are not already active in our programs, with specific involvement of the Children’s Council and Youth Council to shape and own these ministries • Serve as the primary liaison between children’s and youth ministry and the office staff who assist in communicating and publicizing events and programming • Create and maintain database for children and youth • Recruit and equip volunteers as leaders and chaperones for various special events for children and youth ministry (e.g. Movie Nights, Youth Week, Vacation Bible School) • Coordinate schedules, details, materials for special events for children and youth ministry (e.g. Movie Nights, Youth Week, Vacation Bible School) • Attend staff meetings • Attend Administrative Council Meetings and other meetings as directed by Senior Pastor • Other duties as assigned Skills, Knowledge, and Experience Requirements: • Exhibits an attractive spirituality reflecting Jesus’ command to love God and to love neighbor • Belief in Saint Andrew’s mission, methods, principles, and structure • Knowledge of and dedication to promoting United Methodist doctrine • Genuine love and caring for the children and youth of St. Andrew’s community • Ability to work with children and youth • Knowledge of child development and ability to integrate this knowledge in choosing age-appropriate and doctrinally compatible curriculum for various ages of children and youth for Sunday school, weekly teaching, Vacation Bible School, etc. • Strong team building skills to recruit, train/mentor, resource, and support adult volunteers • Displays gifts for delegating tasks rather than dumping tasks • High-level organizational skills with attention to details • Capacity for establishing and maintaining effective and harmonious working relationships with staff, volunteers, and the general public • High energy, spiritual maturity, and leadership skills • Experience in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Word and Publisher, and Windows 8 (or later versions) is preferred • Experience with children’s ministry and/or youth ministry in a local church preferred Education Requirements: • High School/GED required; Associate Degree or higher preferred • Certifications/Degrees related to Christian Education, Youth Ministry, and/or Children’s Ministry preferred
