United Methodist Women is the group of women organized for mission.  United Methodist Women is the successor organization to the home and foreign missionary societies, laides aid groups and guilds of the 7 predecessor denominations of the United Methodist Church.  The PURPOSE is stated in The Book of  Discipline 2008:  "The organized unit of United Methodist women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to to know God and experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to create a supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission though participation in the global ministries of the global ministries of the church". (par 356.3)

Any woman who supports the Purpose and chooses to belong is a member.   There are approximately 800,000 United Methodist Women in the United States and over 26,000 local units.  Members gave more than $16 million to support mission world wide since 2008.  UMW supports139 agencies, schools, clinics in the US and 299 world wide.

The United Methodst Women fund all of their work through their members.  No funds come from the General Church.

The mission focus of United Methodist Women is to make a difference in the lives of women, children and youth.  When a need is identified, an answer is sought.  If mission is your passion, UMW is for you.
