Student Leadership Institute (SLI) - 2008

SLI is a four-day event for emerging students nominated by their churches for their leadership potential.  Outstanding speakers, musicians, professors, devotional practices, and learning experiences challenge young people to identify, respond, and prepare for God's call to lifetime Christian leadership.  Click here for a medical release form.

Student Leadership Institute Returns for a Second Year
The AWF Conference Student Leadership Institute (SLI) is a joint project of the Duffey Institute for Church Leadership and the Conference Resource Center, seeking to raise up a generation of young people who will practice Christian leadership through their lifetimes.  In 2007, 30 young people from across the Alabama-West Florida Conference spent four days at Huntingdon College being challenged, trained, and equipped to serve their churches and communities as emerging Christian leaders. 

They heard from dynamic speakers such as Frazer UMC's John Schmidt, Montgomery First's Patrick Quinn, former Jeopardy co-host Sofia Lidskog Dickens, and Daniel Joye.  Christian recording artists Shane and Shane spent a day with the students and Aurburn's Encounter Band led worship. Students learned about Christian leadership through daily teaching time with Huntingdon professors and site visits such as a tour of the Alabama State Capitol building with former Chief of Staff to Gov. Riley, Tobey Roth.  Additionally, they toured the Civil Rights museum and learned servant leadership by working at Adullam House children's home.

The 2008 Student Leadership Institute promises to be packed with even more great speakers, musicians, learning activities, and unbelievable surprises.  This year's main speaker is Bert Jones, president of GO International, a worldwide missions organization based in Wilmore, KY.  He is also a nationally-known expert and speaker on leadership.

SLI is designed for churches to make an investment in top young people, so that those young people will return the churches investment when they apply what they have learned as emerging leaders in their churches.  Each church may nominate up to three students to attend.  Churches are strongly encouraged to provide scholarships to support the students they nominate.
