Dr. Robert Mulholland in his book, Invitation to a Journey, describes Christian spiritual formation as “being conformed to the image of Christ for the sake of others”. The Division of Spiritual Formation of the Board of Discipleship has sought to offer and encourage this invitation to a journey into deepening spiritual growth and formation through various opportunities in our Conference.
Our work includes:
- Bringing together a conference spiritual formation team to vision, discern, plan and explore opportunities for spiritual growth.
- An “Experiential Prayer Room” is offered at each annual conference with various stations of prayer such as remembering your baptism, knitting prayer shawls, making prayer beads, prayers for the world, a spiritual reading book table and “The Resting Place”, which is an area of rocking chairs and prayer shawls; a place get away for prayer, rest and reflection.
- Also at annual conference, we host a Spiritual Formation Luncheon. This luncheon informs you about what Spiritual Formation/Direction is and it's emphasis within our annual conference.
