CIRCLES of Transformation is an exciting new ministry of the Alabama-West Florida Conference. This ministry with the poor is a marriage of a ministry called CIRCLES and a process of loving, learning, and leading developed by Spiritual Leadership, Inc. (SLI). CIRCLES of Transformation is a faith-based ministry which addresses generational poverty through developing CIRCLES in local communities.
Each local CIRCLE consists of families in poverty and allies (typically middle class citizens) who come alongside them and learn together and journey together over time. The purpose of this process is transformation, that is, transformation of the families in poverty, the allies, as well as the community. The bottom line is to break the cycle of poverty in these families. There is much excitement about this new ministry that by its nature and design is intended to be generative, thus to multiply and replicate itself.
CIRCLES of Transformation is being led by Fred and Laurel Blackwell, United Methodists from Phenix City, who have retired to devote themselves full time to a life of service. The vision is that CIRCLES of Transformation will multiply in communities throughout our annual conference.
