Dr. Steve Furr, AWF lay leader and delegate head, was elected as the Southeastern Jurisdictional Representative for the Commission on General Conference today, May 16, 2016. Furr joins twenty-four delegates from other jurisdictions and central conferences who were also elected. He was nominated by the SEJ College of Bishops.
Furr expressed his appreciation to the voting body by saying, "I appreciate this opportunity to serve. As we've been here at General Conference, we realize there are things we can do better in running a large conference like this. I look forward to working with the business manager and commission to make this a more efficient conference that allows us to get our work done."
These delegates serve for an eight-year term. According to the Book of Discipline, The Commission of the General Conference "shall select the site and set the dates of the General Conference up to four quadrennial in advance and shall send an official notice to all elected delegates announcing specifically the opening day and hour of the General Conference and anticipated time of adjournment."
In addition to these responsibilities, the discipline also charges that this commission will plan the schedule for opening day, advise delegates of special events and order of the day, arrange for the Advanced Daily Christian Advocate (ADCA), per diem, and set the number of legislative committees, to name a few.
