AWF Receives Notes of Thanks for Louisiana Flood Relief Help

September 20, 2016
The Alabama-West Florida Conference heard the call from our connection to help the Louisiana area with flood relief efforts. Over $25,000 was collected and sent directly to the Louisiana conference for immediate use and fifteen AWF churches served as collection points for UMCOR kit supplies. Bishop Cynthia Harvey expressed her appreciation in a letter you may read here

Two members of Cokesbury UMC in Pensacola, FL, have relatives in the Denham Springs, LA, area and noted their sincere appreciation below.

Rex and I want to thank our church family and community for being a designated donation site for the flood victims of Louisiana. Many people know that Rex was raised in Denham Spring, LA, one of the hardest hit areas. We both have numerous family members who live in Denham Springs,  including Rex's 85 year old parents, sister and family, aunts, uncles and loads of cousins. Rex's parents lost their home completely, due to 7 1/2 feet of water inside. As one can imagine, losing your home at any age is devastating, but when you're 85 and your whole life's treasures are destroyed, it almost destroys you. However, they have had their family surrounding them with endless love, support and prayer as well as many different church groups helping them with clearing and gutting
out their home. Of course UMCOR and their church, Denham Springs UMC, has been right there supporting them too with buckets, food, prayer, and shoulders to cry on. Rex and I have been there and are headed back again this weekend to continue the work. But I had to write a note and say just how much it means to us that our own church family is helping out and being the hands and feet of Christ. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

In His love,
Rex and Kathy DeLaune
