Bishop's Confirmation Retreat Encourages Exploration

Written: 4/1/2010

“Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but will have the light of life.” John 8:12

(Leigh Meekins) The annual AWF Conference Bishops' Confirmation Retreat was held January 29-31 at Blue Lake Camp. The recipe for a fabulous retreat was this:

  • 160 Sixth-graders and their adult leaders;
  • lots of rain, cold, and sunshine;
  • 1 enthusiastic Bishop;
  • 5 workshops;
  • 1 prayer labyrinth; and
  • 3 Worship Services
This year’s retreat offered local church confirmation classes of all sizes the opportunity to increase their knowledge about worship, the Bible, United Methodism, and their personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The students stretched their minds and hearts in learning about the light of Christ in their lives.

The retreat included a time with Bishop Paul L. Leeland on Saturday where he shared with the confirmands about their faith and being connected to The United Methodist Church. On Saturday night during worship each confirmand had the opportunity to create their own prayer square. Sunday morning's closing worship ended with an offering for UMCOR Haiti Relief of $314.

Confirmation Retreat is a great opportunity for confirmation groups to deepen their preparation for Confirmation Sunday while having a great retreat experience. We are already looking forward to next year’s event.
