Clara J. Ester, Mobile District Lay Leader

Clara, a native of Memphis, TN, is a graduate of LeMoyne-Owen College. She moved to Mobile, AL in February 1970 to work at Dumas Wesley Community Center to assess the needs in the Crichton community. She later became Neighborhood Organizer, Program Director, Associate Director and retired the end of December 2006 as Executive Director.

1986 Clara was commissioned as a deaconess in the UMC. She’s a member of Toulminville-Warren Street UMC where she has served in numerous capacities. Presently, she’s the UMW local unit’s Spiritual Growth Coordinator, a member of the Good Samaritan, serves on the Boy Scout Pack Committee and a member of the Mass Choir. She is the Vice President for People United to Advance the Dream.

Clara serves as Conference UMW Social Action Coordinator and serves on the conference Leadership Team for Circles of Transformation. She serves on the District Committee on Ministry and is a certified lay speaker.
