As I have visited with churches across our annual conference, I have heard a theme arise from our leaders that they would like more training. With a new year beginning, many of our church members will be stepping into leadership roles that are new to them. These faithful members are answering a call to serve God, and vital congregations will ensure that they have the support and leadership training they need to fulfill their responsibilities. Thankfully, there are several great leadership training resources available to help new leaders become acquainted with their new roles:
Cokesbury offers an official United Methodist resource called “Guidelines” that has a booklet for each church position. You can purchase all the guides in one set or individually.
The United Methodist Church has several webinars coming up that will focus on the different leadership positions in the local church. You may browse available options and register at umdiscsipleship.org/webinars. Here are some upcoming webinars as of the time of this writing:
Discipleship Ministries also has job descriptions and other resources available for many UMC positions.
District Training Seminars
Many of our districts offer training seminars in conjunction with their District Charge Conference. Check your district website to see what is being offered in your district.
These resources will help our leaders have the knowledge and confidence they need to fulfill their roles in 2016!
